Is 15 minutes a day enough?
Yes, 15 minutes daily is the ideal flexibility routine. You can train for longer but people get the best results with a small, consistent commitment, at least 4-5 days a week.
Why do I have to hold stretches so long?
It can typically take 20-30 seconds to switch off the body’s natural stretch reflex. By deep stretching for between 2 and 5 minutes, your muscles can fully relax and lengthen, creating the flexibility you are after. It’s science!
What if I have an existing injury?
Most of our poses are presented with modifications for all levels so even with an injury you can take part, you just need to modify some postures to avoid pain.
How should I programme my weekly sessions?
To get the most out of the Flexly programme, we recommend that you do a one hour class once a week and a 15 min stretch video daily. This will help you to achieve the flexibility you desire and to keep it consistent.
Do I need to do the videos in a particular order?
No, you’re free to choose any videos you’d like to do at any time! However, we recommend that you don’t repeat the same video two days in a row to give your body time to recover and adapt.
We strongly suggest starting with our Get Started program, which introduces foundational breathing techniques and stretches to set you up for success with Flexly.
Do I have to do the 4:8 breathing?
We know the 4:8 breathing may seem difficult at first but it is an integral part of the Flexly system. It helps to switch off the body’s natural myotatic stretch reflex, which stops our muscles from relaxing and gaining more length and flexibility. You can breathe through your nose if you prefer but for the best results, breathe out through the mouth for 8 seconds making the ‘haaa’ sound.
Can I do this if I am pregnant?
Unfortunately, no. When pregnant, your body creates more of the hormone ‘relaxin’, which loosens your muscles, joints and ligaments and makes you more prone to injuries. Deep stretching is not recommended. Please consult a healthcare professional post birth before undertaking any stretches.
Do I need equipment to follow along with Flexly programs?
Nearly all of our exercises are bodyweight-based and require minimal equipment. Occasionally, we may recommend equipment like yoga blocks or resistance bands to support your routine. However, you can easily substitute household objects such as books or cushions to achieve the same effect.
